Peter Molyneux’s new game, blending elements from Fable and Black & White, launches this April.

Legendary game designer Peter Molyneux has announced that his upcoming title, Masters of Albion, is set to launch on April 22 for Windows PC via Steam.

Molyneux, known for his work with Bullfrog and Lionhead on classics like Populous, Dungeon Keeper, Black & White, and Fable, describes Masters of Albion as “the culmination of my life’s work.” This new entry is a god game, a genre he’s famously associated with, and the influences from his previous titles are evident in the release date trailer.

The game’s setting resembles the Albion from Fable, populated with lively villagers, chickens, and a mix of humorous and chaotic fantasy elements. Players will utilize a giant spectral hand to construct buildings and interact with the world and its characters, reminiscent of Black & White. This hand can also possess individual characters, sending them on quests similar to those in Fable. At night, players will fend off undead hordes attacking their settlements, echoing the raid mechanics from Dungeon Keeper.

This isn’t Molyneux’s first venture into nostalgia; in 2013, his studio 22cans launched Godus, inspired by his groundbreaking 1989 title, Populous. However, Godus faced significant challenges and never fully transitioned out of early access. Funded through a high-profile Kickstarter, it was meant to be governed by a single player, the winner of 22cans’ earlier mobile game, Curiosity: What’s Inside the Cube? That player, Bryan Henderson, was promised a share of the profits, which ultimately did not materialize, and Molyneux has stated that Godus did not turn a profit.

With Masters of Albion, Molyneux aims for a redemption arc and a fitting capstone to his career. We’ll find out if it delivers when it launches in April. Meanwhile, a new Fable game, set as a reboot, is slated for release in 2026.
