Phantom Blade Zero to Launch Physically, But With a Twist

As more game developers shift away from physical copies, fans of Phantom Blade Zero were understandably anxious about its release format. Fortunately, there’s a mix of good and bad news. The good news is that Phantom Blade Zero will indeed see a physical release, but it won’t hit shelves until a few months post-launch.

This upcoming wuxia action RPG comes from S-Game, a studio based in Beijing known for the Rainblood series. The combat system draws heavily from real martial arts techniques, with action movie icon Donnie Yen brought on board as a consultant to enhance the combat design. Players can look forward to diving into Phantom Blade Zero on PlayStation 5, Steam, and the Epic Games Store starting October 28.

With the launch just around the corner, many were left speculating about the availability of a physical edition. S-Game has now confirmed that a PS5 physical version will be released, but fans will have to wait until 2027 for it. While it’s a letdown that there won’t be a physical copy available at launch, it was somewhat anticipated given that only digital pre-orders were offered during the promotional phase.

In today’s gaming landscape, a physical edition often doesn’t guarantee a tangible copy of the game; many come with just an empty case and a download code. Thankfully, Phantom Blade Zero’s physical edition will include a disc.

There will be three different physical editions of Phantom Blade Zero. The standard edition is priced at $59.99 and includes the base game. The deluxe edition, costing $69.99, will come with a digital art book, the soundtrack, and exclusive skins for Wulin Legend and Blood-Steel form. Lastly, the Ultimate Edition will feature a collectible steelbook, but its price and contents remain under wraps as it has no digital counterpart. It’s still unclear if any pre-order bonuses will accompany the physical editions.

For those opting for a digital pre-order, Phantom Blade Zero can be preloaded on October 26 at 10 p.m. ET, allowing players to jump right in when it launches on October 28 at 10 p.m. ET.

S-Game’s latest action RPG is set to introduce players to the unique world of “kungfupunk.”
