Player Faces Month Ban for Extreme Griefing: “I Made a Mistake”
Over the weekend, a streamer known as NAPainter made waves in the extraction shooter scene with a highly controversial move that has sparked significant discussion. As a result, he’s facing a 30-day ban from the game, which he has accepted without resistance. “I am more than okay with this outcome,” he shared on X. “I made a mistake and did something messed up. I’m willing to take this.”
The incident that stirred the community involved NAPainter exploiting an out-of-bounds glitch in Cryo Archive, allowing him to hide in the raid boss room until an opposing team completed their encounter. He then ambushed them and claimed all their loot, which he described as the “most HEINOUS, EVIL, and DISGUSTING thing” he’s ever done in gaming.
Bungie responded to the situation, announcing plans to patch the exploit before Cryo Archive returns this weekend as the game wraps up its first season. They also stated they would investigate the incident and clarify the rules regarding bannable offenses.
As part of the consequences, NAPainter received a 30-day suspension, which he detailed on X after getting the go-ahead from Bungie’s community manager. “I received a 1-month suspension from Marathon a couple of days ago for ‘deliberately ruining the online experience for others, either by cheating, exploiting a game glitch, or being disruptive,’” he wrote. “Let me make this clear. I am more than okay with this outcome. I made a mistake and did something messed up. I’m willing to take this. No questions asked. No complaints given.”
He faced backlash from fellow players and acknowledged that he should have revived the enemy team instead of celebrating his actions. NAPainter has since reached out to the affected players, all of whom received compensation packages from Bungie, to apologize for his behavior.
“In the meantime, I am compiling a comprehensive list of every exploit I know or suspect exists within the game and will be handing it over to Bungie,” he added. “It may not be much, but it’s my first step in making amends to Bungie. To the greater Marathon community, I apologize for how my actions affected the perception of the game as a whole. I love Marathon a lot, and the fact that I gave the haters more ammunition isn’t something I am proud of.”
