Jetpack Cat has quickly become the standout character in Overwatch’s recent relaunch. This support hero is exactly what her name suggests: a cat equipped with a jetpack. She can tether both allies and enemies to her jetpack, soaring across the battlefield to provide teammates with a strategic high ground or sending foes tumbling off the map. The potential for epic moments, hilarious shenanigans, and game-changing teamwork is immense. However, her overwhelming presence has led to her being banned in nearly every ranked match.

This adorable troublemaker, affectionately named Fika, is joining Sombra in the competitive ban list, where players vote to exclude heroes each match. It seems that competitive players aren’t too fond of a little fun, as they’re frustrated by unexpected joyrides that disrupt their carefully planned headshots. If you want to play Jetpack Cat, your best bet is to dive into Quick Play or arcade modes where bans don’t apply. Part of the issue is simply players adjusting to the new hero and figuring out how to counter her. Jetpack Cat has only been in the game for a few days, and I’ve already discovered several characters that can effectively deal with her. For instance, using Lifeweaver to pull a teammate back to safety after they’ve been nearly yanked off the map by her tether is one of the most rewarding plays I’ve experienced. Hitscan characters like Soldier: 76 can easily take her down from the air, or at least weaken her enough to force a retreat. Sombra can hack her while she’s carrying another hero, causing the tether to fail. Every hero has their strengths and weaknesses; it just takes some time to learn them. Once players get the hang of it, maybe Jetpack Cat won’t seem so intimidating, and those who want to soar around as this cute kitty can enjoy her more often.
