Players Turn to Creative Fixes as Marvel Tokon Struggles on PC
It’s clear that Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls’ Windows PC version is facing significant challenges. Many gamers are experiencing performance issues that render the game nearly unplayable due to stuttering and frame drops. Currently, the game holds a disappointing 40% approval rating on Steam, with most negative feedback focusing on these technical problems.
In light of these widespread issues, players are resorting to some rather unusual (and perhaps desperate) methods to try and improve their experience with the latest Marvel title. One of the most surprising suggestions—shared by a user on social media from an unnamed Discord chat—recommends running the Epic Games Store (EGS) in the background, even if you’re playing through Steam. Since Marvel Tokon utilizes Unreal Engine 5 and interacts with Epic’s backend services, launching EGS at least once is believed to help these integrations function more smoothly. However, it remains uncertain whether this odd workaround actually yields results, as some players claim it worked while others report no change.
Fighting game streamer Chris F also proposed a peculiar fix for the game’s microstuttering: using Riva Tuner Statistics Server (RTSS) to cap the framerate at exactly 59.9 frames per second. While RTSS is designed to limit framerates to minimize microstutter, it’s strange that this specific setting is what seems to alleviate the issue. Additionally, there’s a lengthy list of other suggested fixes, including using the in-game “Set Graphics Automatically” feature and manually reloading shaders.
It’s tough to determine if any of these solutions genuinely resolve the game’s issues or if they’re merely psychological boosts. Perhaps the most frustrating aspect is that even if you manage to get the game running smoothly on your PC, multiplayer experiences may still be rocky. If your opponent is facing technical difficulties, it will likely impact your match. Even if your setup is flawless, an opponent’s issues can cause the game to stutter more on your end due to a phenomenon known as “one-sided rollback.”
The situation has escalated to the point where well-known fighting game streamer Maximiliian Dood uninstalled the PC version live on stream to switch to the PS5 version instead. Additionally, the online tournament series Tampa Never Sleeps has barred Windows PC players from competing in their brackets for this game. Many PS5 players are opting to disable crossplay to avoid these issues, effectively isolating PC gamers.
As for the gameplay itself, opinions are mixed. While many players appreciate the stunning visuals and diverse character playstyles, others criticize the game’s sluggish central movement and combo execution. Here’s hoping that the developers can address the problems with this PC port, allowing discussions to shift from bizarre fixes to gameplay balance and design choices.
Bad PC port, Hulk no like.
