The enchanting action-adventure game Kena: Bridge of Spirits is set to receive a “bigger and better” sequel, as announced by studio Ember Lab during today’s PlayStation State of Play.

Founders Mike and Josh Grier unveiled an impressive new trailer for Kena: Scars of Kosmora, showcasing a slightly older protagonist who will venture into a new realm called Kosmora, where she will discover new ways to assist both the living and the fallen in her role as a spirit guide.

Kena: Scars of Kosmora promises to deliver “deeper, more dynamic combat, epic boss battles, a larger, richer world, and of course, our charming spirit companions,” according to Mike Grier.

“Our collaboration with PlayStation Studios has enabled us to broaden our vision while remaining true to what made the first game special,” said Josh Grier.

I thoroughly enjoyed Kena: Bridge of Spirits when I played it in 2021, and I’m thrilled to see a sequel coming, especially after the developer’s initial doubts. However, I’m particularly excited about the prospect of another shorter game. Kena took me around 10 hours to complete, and while Ember Lab is marketing this as a larger experience, it can’t be that much longer, right? … Right?

Let’s be honest, even if this game takes twice as long to finish as the first, that still falls within the realm of a reasonably short action-adventure title by today’s standards, which is exactly what I’m looking for after spending nearly 200 hours in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. As I get older, I find myself appreciating developers who can deliver meaningful, memorable experiences in more compact, digestible formats.

Kena: Scars of Kosmora is set to launch on PS5 and PC in 2026.
