PlayStation’s YouTube Channel Faces Ongoing Backlash

It’s been just over two weeks since Sony announced that PlayStation will cease manufacturing physical discs after 2028, and fans of physical media are seizing every chance to voice their frustrations. Whether on social media, the official PlayStation Blog, or YouTube, the backlash is palpable. Studios promoting their games on PlayStation platforms are finding themselves caught in the crossfire. However, there’s one genre that seems to be immune to this wave of criticism: kids and family games.

Me: omg! our game just launched and PlayStation posted our launch trailer! 400 comments whaaaaaat! I wonder what people think of our game??

Take Instant Sports 2, for example. This party game, now available on PlayStation 5, may seem unremarkable, but its trailer is one of the few that escapes the barrage of comments from physical disc supporters. This is likely because Sony disables comments on family-friendly games, presumably to protect younger viewers from any inappropriate remarks. As of now, PlayStation has released several trailers today, and each one—whether showcasing a major update for Fortnite or a smaller title like the retro sports parody Pro Jank Footy—is inundated with pro-disc comments.

Another title facing this wave of support for physical media is Denshattack!, an exciting anime train game reminiscent of Tony Hawk’s style that launched yesterday across multiple platforms. Its launch trailer is filled with comments that cleverly play on the situation.

Correction 7/16/2026 3:05 p.m. ET: This article has been updated to clarify that Sony disables comments on family games.
