Pluribus Delays Final Release to Steer Clear of Christmas and Stranger Things Clash

The season finale of Pluribus, recently crowned as Apple TV’s most-watched show ever, is set to arrive sooner than anticipated. While new episodes have been rolling out weekly on Fridays, the conclusion of the first season will now premiere on Wednesday, December 24, just in time for the holiday festivities.

This shift isn’t out of the ordinary for the series, which previously adjusted its release schedule in late November to sidestep the Thanksgiving and Black Friday rush. By moving the finale from December 26 to December 24, Pluribus positions itself ahead of the hectic holiday season and the new episodes of Stranger Things season 5. With Part 2 of the beloved Netflix series launching on December 25, this strategic change could help ensure that Pluribus gets the attention it deserves.

Set against the backdrop of New Mexico, Pluribus tells the story of Carol Sturka, a romance author portrayed by Rhea Seehorn, who is one of the rare individuals unaffected by a virus called ‘the Joining’. This virus has transformed the rest of the population into a compliant hive mind known as ‘the Others’. The cast also features Karolina Wydra as Zosia, Carol’s hivemind ‘chaperone’, and Carlos-Manuel Vesga as fellow survivor Manousos.

Created by Vince Gilligan, known for Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, the show has received critical acclaim. Gilligan crafted the character of Carol Sturka specifically for Seehorn, expressing his admiration: “I wrote this show for her. I love her so much. I knew she would be good in it; I knew she was someone I could confidently count on and place a bet on in terms of making her the star of a TV show… I thought it was long past time for her to be a star.”

A second season is already in the works, with Gilligan describing the show as “bigger than anything I’ve ever made.” If you’ve caught episode 8, don’t miss our interviews with Seehorn and Karolina Wydra discussing their pivotal moments.
