Pokémon Card Collector Discovers Damaged Car After Scoring Rare Pitch Black Packs

A Pokémon TCG enthusiast had a rollercoaster of a day, experiencing a brief moment of joy followed by a major setback. After scoring some of the latest card set, Pitch Black, at their local Walmart, they returned to find their car had been completely wrecked in the parking lot.

For nearly two years, the Pokémon TCG has faced significant challenges, struggling to meet the demand for cards while battling against scalpers who are clearing out both physical and online stores. As a result, hunting for new packs has become a frustrating endeavor, often involving long waits and, at times, even dangerous confrontations. With the 30th Anniversary set on the horizon, the situation shows no signs of improving. So when Minimum-Idea115 stumbled upon a few three-pack blisters and an Elite Trainer Box of Pitch Black, they must have felt incredibly lucky.

In a post on Reddit’s r/PokemonTCG, Minimum-Idea115 shared their excitement about scoring some Pitch Black cards, but quickly followed up with photos of their severely damaged Honda Civic, which looked like it had been crushed. The destruction was extensive, with the rear completely crumpled and the trunk appearing beyond repair.

“I unfortunately walked out to find an elderly woman somehow totaled my car and 4 others,” they wrote. “Hopefully I’ll have better luck with these packs.”

Remarkably, they seemed to be taking the situation in stride, given the severity of the damage. Minimum-Idea115 engaged with various comments, even enjoying the joke, “That’s not what we meant by ‘show the hits’. NOW SHOW THE HITS!”

And they certainly did! Pitch Black turned out to be a surprisingly generous set, boasting a solid one-in-four hit rate for Ultra Rares or better. Minimum-Idea115 ended up with a decent collection of Illustration Rares, though nothing that would cover the cost of repairing their car.
