Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen to receive Home support this year, plus a complimentary Celebi for players.

In celebration of Pokémon’s 30th anniversary in 2026, the beloved Gen 1 remakes, Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon LeafGreen, have made their way to the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, each priced at $19.99. However, like many Pokémon titles, they initially lacked the ability to transfer creatures to Pokémon Home. That will change this October when Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen finally gain Home support.

Once you link your game to Pokémon Home, you can transfer your favorite Pokémon from FireRed and LeafGreen to Home and then to your other Pokémon games. Just remember, similar to when Pokémon Legends: Z gained Home support, any Pokémon moved from FireRed and LeafGreen to another game cannot return to its original game. So, if you decide to take your FireRed Charizard on a trip to Lumiose City, be aware that it will be a permanent relocation to Legends: Z-A. Additionally, Pokémon from other games cannot be sent to FireRed and LeafGreen.

After you catch ’em all and connect Pokémon FireRed and/or Pokémon LeafGreen to Home, you’ll receive a Celebi as a gift. Players who complete their Pokédex will get this Mythical Pokémon for free. You won’t need to transfer your FireRed or LeafGreen Pokémon to Home to claim Celebi; the Pokémon registered in your Pokédex will automatically be recognized in Home.

While Game Freak and The Pokémon Company haven’t provided a specific date for the arrival of Pokémon Home support, they have indicated it will be sometime in October 2026. The update will also boost the number of Pokémon Premium Home subscribers can store from 6,000 to 9,000. For the first time, trainers will also be able to transfer Pokémon caught in Pokémon Go with a Safari Ball to Home, which will convert the ball to a Strange Ball.

On a less positive note, the Nintendo 3DS app Pokémon Bank will be shutting down on February 25, 2027, at 10 p.m. EST. After that date, trainers will no longer be able to transfer Pokémon from Bank to Home.
