The Pokémon Company has announced a “special video” to celebrate 30 years of Pokémon, set to air during Super Bowl LX on Sunday, February 8.
While the exact timing of the video during the Super Bowl remains a mystery, the company has confirmed it will debut during the event, not just on the day itself.
Fans are buzzing about the “#Pokemon30” hashtag associated with the video on social media, speculating it might hint at a new Pokémon collaboration album, similar to ‘Pokémon 25: The Album’, which featured 14 tracks and remixes from artists like Katy Perry, Lil Yachty, and Post Malone.
The teaser trailer prominently features Jigglypuff, a beloved character from Super Smash Bros. Melee and Pokémon Snap, floating in a recording studio. Brief melodies play throughout the teaser, fueling the album speculation.
However, it’s worth noting that the #Pokemon25 tag was also used for the Pokémon Presents show that aired on February 26, 2021, so it doesn’t guarantee a new album.
Recent discussions around Game Freak, the developer behind the mainline Pokémon games, have shifted to their upcoming action RPG, Beast of Reincarnation. In this game, players parry bosses to empower a dog companion, whose strength is influenced by how much you pet and feed it—a unique twist that feels very much in line with the developer’s style.
Game Freak has clarified that they didn’t set out to create an anti-Pokémon game with Beast of Reincarnation; it just evolved that way.
