Pokémon TCG Pocket Introduces Innovative Card Type This October

During a Pokémon TCG Pocket panel at the PokémonXP event in San Francisco, The Pokémon Company revealed some thrilling new card types coming to the mobile game. Specifically, dual-type cards are set to debut soon.

Starting in October, players can look forward to the arrival of dual-type cards in Pokémon TCG Pocket. The first one to drop will be Mega Mewtwo X ex, a Psychic/Fighting-type Pokémon boasting 180 HP and a powerful Dual Impact ability that states, “If a stadium is in play, this attack does 40 more damage.” This was showcased in the latest trailer for Pokémon TCG Pocket, which also confirmed that ex cards for partner Pokémon Piplup and Fuecoco will be available in October.

While dual-type Pokémon have been a staple in the video games since the first generation, they only made their way into the physical Pokémon Trading Card Game in the mid-2000s. According to Bulbapedia, over 90 dual-type Pokémon cards have been released in the years since.

Given this history, it was a bit surprising to see their absence in Pokémon TCG Pocket initially, though the game has certainly offered plenty of cards for players to collect. Currently, Mega Mewtwo X ex is the only confirmed dual-type card, but a blog post on the Pokémon website hints that more will be on the way.

Additionally, that post teases that the October update will “kick off a new series of Pokémon TCG Pocket expansions,” indicating that live service support for the game is far from over. The introduction of dual-type cards and ex cards for partner Pokémon will only enhance the variety of options available in Pokémon TCG Pocket moving forward.

Prepare for trouble!
