Pragmata’s director expresses interest in a sequel, but with a caveat.
Capcom has kicked off 2026 with an impressive streak, launching three successful titles in quick succession: Resident Evil Requiem, Monster Hunter Stories 3, and Pragmata. The excitement doesn’t stop there, as Onimusha: Way of the Sword is set to release later this year. Among these titles, Pragmata stands out as the only new intellectual property, making its success particularly gratifying. In a recent chat, the director of Pragmata, Yonghee Cho, and producer Naoto Oyama shared their thoughts on the possibility of a sequel, and their response was cautiously optimistic.
“I would absolutely love to see a sequel,” Cho expressed. “However, I’m not the sole decision-maker, so I can’t really say much more than that.” He emphasized that this was just his personal viewpoint.
“Please don’t take that out of context,” Oyama chimed in.
It was noted that Capcom’s PR team quickly intervened after Cho’s comments, indicating the sensitivity surrounding the topic.
Pragmata has made waves, selling a million copies within just two days and surpassing two million shortly after its launch. This title was an experimental venture for Capcom, spearheaded by a team of younger developers. While the higher-ups at Capcom have yet to weigh in on the potential for a Pragmata sequel, this is not uncommon so soon after a game’s release.
As highlighted earlier this year, Pragmata’s success could signal a shift in the industry, with major studios potentially leaning towards smaller-scale projects that don’t require years of development and massive budgets. The gaming landscape is evolving, and Pragmata’s rapid sales could be a sign of things to come. Capcom’s ambitions for growth and innovation are clearly on the rise.
