Producers hint at a potential crossover between Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and Tom Hardy’s Venom.

Tom Hardy’s live-action Venom may have had his final outing, but there’s still a glimmer of hope for a future crossover with Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In a recent chat, producer Amy Pascal and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige encouraged fans to “have hope” for a potential meeting between Peter Parker and Eddie Brock.

During an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Pascal and Feige discussed the chances of Venom and Spider-Man finally sharing the screen in the MCU. The two characters briefly existed in the same universe, with hints of a crossover teased in post-credits scenes from Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Spider-Man: No Way Home. However, they have yet to face off directly.

“It would be great,” Pascal remarked when asked about the long-anticipated clash of the two Toms. “Let’s put it that way.”

“Always have hope,” Feige echoed, leaving the door open without providing a definitive answer.

In the same interview, Pascal revealed that an animated Venom movie is in the works at Sony Pictures, directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, known for their work on Final Destination: Bloodlines. This project is still a few years away, but reports suggest that Hardy will be involved in the animated film.

So far, Tom Hardy’s Venom has been confined to Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, battling foes like Riot, Carnage, Knull, and Shriek across three live-action films. Sony’s universe primarily focuses on Spider-Man’s villains and allies, including Venom, Morbius, Madame Web, and Kraven the Hunter. Meanwhile, Spider-Man has been more closely tied to Marvel Studios’ MCU since his debut in Captain America: Civil War, portrayed by Tom Holland.

The division between the two universes stems from a deal between Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures, which retains the film rights to Spider-Man, allowing Marvel to “borrow” the character for its successful live-action franchise. Sony still holds the rights to a variety of Spider-Man-related characters and produces the animated Spider-Verse films.

Spider-Man and Venom last appeared together in live-action in Spider-Man 3, featuring Tobey Maguire and Topher Grace as the respective characters. Fans remain hopeful that this could change, possibly through a multiverse storyline. Who knows what surprises await in next year’s Avengers: Secret Wars?

The conversation also touched on “street-level” characters in Spider-Man’s world, such as Daredevil and Kingpin, who have been brought to life in Marvel Television’s Daredevil series. Pascal’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day will introduce some of these characters, including Jon Bernthal’s Punisher and Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock, who made a brief appearance in No Way Home. When asked about potential rights issues preventing characters like Kingpin and Daredevil from joining the broader MCU, Feige clarified, “They’re not [rights issues].” He noted that there are various factors to navigate in discussions between Sony and Marvel.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to hit theaters on July 31. Additionally, fans can look forward to another Spider-Man film, with Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse scheduled for release on June 18, 2027, wrapping up the Miles Morales trilogy.
