Project Hail Mary Now Available for Streaming on Prime Just in Time for the Holiday Weekend

Project Hail Mary, the film adaptation of Andy Weir’s 2021 sci-fi novel, has emerged as one of the standout movies of the year. Following its impressive theatrical debut on March 20, fans have been eager to know when they can stream it. The good news is that Project Hail Mary has been available for streaming on MGM Plus since June 18. However, many might not be aware of MGM Plus’s existence. Fortunately, the film is set to hit Prime Video in just a few days.

Amazon MGM, the studio behind Project Hail Mary, has announced that the film will start streaming on Prime Video this Friday, July 3. A clip showcasing a scene from the movie has also been released on the official Prime Video YouTube channel. While the “Having A Moment” scene is a highlight, new viewers might want to skip it, as it features one of the film’s most poignant moments. On the other hand, it could be just the kind of scene that entices viewers to check out the movie when it becomes available for streaming later this week.

Project Hail Mary has achieved both box office success and critical acclaim, currently ranking third in both worldwide and domestic box office earnings this year. Reviewers have praised the film, with one review stating that the adaptation is “everything fans of the book could want — and it’s a whole lot of fun for everyone else, too.” Directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller have received special recognition for their work, along with Ryan Gosling’s outstanding performance. The impressive puppetry of the alien companion, Rocky, has also garnered attention for its skillful execution.

The plot of Project Hail Mary centers on Ryland Grace (Gosling), a middle school teacher who unexpectedly becomes Earth’s last hope as the sole survivor of a space mission. Throughout his journey, Grace encounters an alien life form named Rocky, who is on a parallel mission to save his own planet from the same existential threat facing Earth.

Before its streaming release, Project Hail Mary was made available for digital rental and purchase on May 12. Physical copies of the film (Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD) are set to be released on August 11 and are currently available for pre-order. A special SteelBook edition, featuring additional content and collectibles, will be released on October 13. The physical release will include five deleted scenes, commentary from directors Lord and Miller, and a featurette titled “Earth’s Favorite Eridian.”

“We had never done it that way, but it was Ryan’s idea,” Phil Lord shares.
