Rainbow 6 Siege Faces Another Hack, Featuring a 6-7 Meme Twist

Just a week after Ubisoft dealt with the fallout from a major hack in Rainbow 6 Siege that resulted in billions of in-game currency being distributed to players, chaos has struck the game once more. This time, as noted by an outlet, hackers are reportedly issuing bogus bans to players, with these bans lasting a comical 67 days. Clever, right?

On December 27, hackers infiltrated Rainbow 6 Siege, causing a ruckus by distributing massive amounts of in-game currency, high-value items, and weapon skins, which forced the game offline as servers were rolled back to a point before the attack. Concurrently, the game’s Marketplace was taken down while the team investigated the breach.

Now, just a week later, players are reporting that their accounts are being banned under the “Harassment Offense” category, with the bans humorously set for 67 days. This issue gained traction when popular streamer VarsityGaming discovered he was among those targeted during a recent stream.

As of now, Ubisoft has not acknowledged this latest issue on any of its social media platforms, despite being aware of the situation since January 4. The official X account hasn’t seen an update since December 29, when it mentioned that queue times were improving following the previous rollback. There’s also been no communication regarding the earlier attack or the current status of the Marketplace.

When inquiries were made for more information ahead of the New Year, particularly about whether player accounts had been compromised, Ubisoft simply stated, “We’re still investigating what’s happened and can only direct you to the official X account for the game for updates at this time.” That’s the same official X account that hasn’t posted anything since.

Currently, R6 is offline again, with all platforms showing “Degraded” or “Outage” statuses.

As I mentioned last week, remaining silent in the face of such incidents is the worst approach, allowing rumors to run rampant on X and Reddit. Once again, the unverified claim that the Rainbow Six Siege source code has been stolen is circulating online, with some players accepting it as truth. The last time there was a delay in communication, it coincided with the winter break. Now, five days into the New Year, the silence continues, leading many players to express their frustration through sarcastic jokes.

This situation raises concerns that the vulnerabilities exploited by hackers in the previous breach have not yet been addressed, prompting further questions about the game’s overall security and whether player account information has been compromised. Ubisoft has not responded to follow-up requests for comment.

In any case, a prolonged series of outages like this spells trouble for Ubisoft, especially during a financially sensitive period, particularly after a previous R6 issue negatively impacted earnings forecasts for mid-2025.
