Rainbow Six Siege Mobile to Shut Down Just Seven Months After Launch
Ubisoft has faced significant challenges in the realm of live service gaming, particularly with its mobile adaptations of popular franchises. The latest casualty in this ongoing struggle is Rainbow Six Mobile, a free-to-play tactical multiplayer shooter that has been in development for years. Unfortunately, it will be shutting down next year after less than a year since its full release.
In a statement on the game’s X account on October 8, the company announced, “There’s no easy way to put it: we have made the difficult decision to sunset Rainbow Six Mobile. The game will remain available until January 15, 2027. The next season will be released as planned next week.”
Rainbow Six Mobile was initially revealed in 2022 and underwent a beta phase throughout 2023, extending into 2024. The game faced delays, eventually launching in Latin America—one of the regions where Rainbow Six enjoys significant popularity—before going global on February 23, 2026.
Despite achieving millions of downloads on both Android and iOS, Rainbow Six Mobile has struggled to maintain its presence in players’ gaming habits. One reviewer on the Google Play Store noted, “Overall, it’s a solid game, I just wish it was more similar to the actual console and PC version, with more operator choices and choosing where you/your team spawns instead of it being random.” The free-to-play model also drew criticism for locking operators behind paywalls and requiring excessive grinding.
Other mobile titles from Ubisoft, such as The Division Resurgence, have not fared much better. The company even recently brought that looter shooter to PC, where it has been criticized for being buggy, repetitive, and largely neglected.
