Raspberry Pi Releases Official Guide for Building Your Own Cyberdeck
Raspberry Pi’s head of social, Ashley Whittaker, has recognized the rising popularity of cyberdecks, stating, “we haven’t been able to get away from cyberdecks this year.” These compact, portable computers crafted from items like purses, jewelry boxes, and other repurposed materials have taken social media by storm over the past year. In response, Raspberry Pi has released its own guide for building these DIY machines.
This year, Raspberry Pi has also raised its prices several times due to increased costs for RAM and other components, which may further fuel interest among both seasoned and aspiring hobbyists. Notably, the 16GB version of the Raspberry Pi 5 featured in the official cyberdeck guide saw a $100 price increase in April, bringing it close to its original price of $120.
Raspberry Pi’s cyberdeck guide provides a list of necessary parts and step-by-step assembly instructions, opting for a straightforward design with a basic black Pelican-style case. However, as many content creators have shown, the possibilities for creating a cyberdeck are nearly limitless. Annike Tan, whose cyberdecks have garnered millions of views on social media, continues to enhance her “mermaid” purse cyberdeck with new design elements, including a USB hub.
