Rayman’s creator, Michel Ancel, has hinted at a potential remake of the classic 1995 platformer, especially as Ubisoft has been unable to keep a lid on its remakes amid the buzz surrounding Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag.
In a chat with Retro Gamer magazine, Ancel mentioned, “I think there’s a kind of remake planned.” He elaborated, “I don’t remember when specifically, but it will be in HD, and I think Ubisoft is adding a few more checkpoints and tweaks to make it less frustrating.”
While I usually advocate for experiencing retro games as they were originally intended, Rayman 1 is a title that could genuinely benefit from these updates.
Despite being one of Ubisoft’s finest creations, Rayman Legends marked the character’s hiatus as the company shifted focus to releasing a slew of Assassin’s Creed, Watch Dogs, and Far Cry titles over the next decade. Recently, however, Rayman has been making waves, sparking speculation about his comeback.
He made a return in the Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope expansion, Rayman in The Phantom Show, and later appeared as a quirky game show host in the Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix series on Netflix. Last year, Ubisoft even posted job listings for “a prestigious AAA title for the Rayman brand,” and with the recent Australian age rating for “Rayman 30th Anniversary Edition,” it seems like he might be making a comeback.
Switch versions of Capcom’s Disney collection have surfaced, now featuring one of the Resident Evil creator’s earliest games.
