Remedy Supports Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney Amid Concerns Over Baldur’s Gate 3’s Steam Absence: “Alan Wake 2 Wouldn’t Exist Without Epic”

Remedy, the studio behind Alan Wake 2, is having a bit of a back-and-forth with Larian’s publishing lead, Michael Douse, while Douse takes a jab at Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney, who is feeling pretty good about his efforts to secure better deals for gamers.

To break it down: Sweeney recently shared his thoughts on Bluesky, addressing claims that giveaways on the Epic Games Store lead to increased purchases on Steam. He stated, “gamers and developers win by having more options and better deals.” Douse responded to Sweeney’s seemingly carefree stance, pointing out that Remedy faced a financial crunch because they couldn’t leverage Steam for Alan Wake 2 sales, potentially missing out on hundreds of millions in revenue. Remedy has now chimed in.

The official Remedy account posted on Bluesky, stating, “Hi. There would be no Alan Wake 2 without Epic Publishing. The publishing deal with Epic was very fair to Remedy.”

They elaborated, “While these complex deals can often take even a year to finalize and may not always favor the developer, this one was fair. It only took months to complete. Epic Games was, and is, an excellent partner to us. Steam or no Steam.”

In October, Remedy’s CEO Tero Virtala announced his departure after nearly a decade, following the disappointing sales of the shooter FBC: Firebreak.
