Reolink Launches Local AI Hub for Enhanced Security Camera Functionality
AI capabilities in security cameras, like video search and summarization, typically come with cloud service subscriptions. However, Reolink is taking a different approach. The Reolink AI Box, unveiled at CES, utilizes a Qualcomm Dragonwing Q8-series chip for local AI processing, providing users with improved data security and offline functionality.
While some Reolink cameras, such as the TrackFlex Floodlight, already perform AI tasks on-device, this new AI hub integrates smoothly into Reolink’s broader product lineup, expanding AI capabilities to a wider range of devices. Although pricing and release details are still under wraps, the announcement highlighted several exciting features:
– **Prompt-Based Alerts**: Customize your detection logic and set alerts. Move beyond basic motion triggers by creating intelligent rules using natural language.
– **AI Video Search Plus**: Now with enhanced accuracy. Simply enter phrases like “man in a red jacket” to receive precise, context-aware results instantly.
– **Event Description**: ReoNeuraAI automatically analyzes scenes, describes significant events, and ranks their importance across four attention levels.
– **Smart Summary**: This feature generates automated, AI-driven summaries of your security footage, highlighting key trends, insights, and risk assessments.
Reolink also revealed several new security cameras, including a “Power-Efficient” series designed for extended battery life. Additionally, the OMVI series features pan-tilt cameras equipped with a triple-lens system, offering up to 24-megapixel resolution, 360-degree panning, 140-degree tilting, and 16x optical zoom. These cameras can automatically track moving people, vehicles, and animals.
The company introduced a new Solar Floodlight Cam that pairs a 3W solar panel with a 1000-lumen floodlight and a 4-megapixel, 150-degree wide-angle camera. Reolink claims it can operate all day with just one hour of sunlight, and a backup rechargeable battery can keep the camera running for up to three months. Pricing and release information are still pending.
