Resident Evil Fan Film by The Walking Dead Star Breaks Records

Zach Cregger’s take on Resident Evil has garnered significant acclaim from both critics and fans, breaking box office records for the iconic horror series. You might assume that this high-budget reboot would be the top-rated Resident Evil adaptation of the year.

However, that’s not the case. According to IMDb, a different adaptation is currently outshining it — a fan-made project spearheaded by a star from another prominent zombie series.

The standout project is Biohazard, a short film created by Chandler Riggs, who is widely recognized for his role as Carl Grimes on The Walking Dead. Drawing inspiration from Capcom’s Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, Riggs’ labor of love boasts an IMDb rating of 8.3 out of 10, surpassing Cregger’s Resident Evil, which holds a rating of 7.6 out of 10.

Released online on October 14, Biohazard is a 20-minute fan film that adapts one of the most iconic moments from Resident Evil 7: Biohazard — the intense garage showdown between protagonist Ethan Winters and the menacing Jack Baker.

Riggs takes on the role of Ethan, while Jason Douglas (The Walking Dead, Preacher) portrays Jack Baker. The short film captures the game’s gripping encounter where Ethan finds himself cornered in a garage with Jack, a relentless adversary who transforms an ordinary setting into a harrowing fight for survival. Instead of attempting to cover the entire game, Riggs focuses on this single sequence, aiming to convey the game’s unique mix of tension, violence, and grotesque horror in a live-action format.

The supporting cast features Mary Rachel Quinn (Outer Banks) as Marguerite Baker, Eugenie Bondurant (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It) as Eveline, Johnathan O’Neil (The Pitt) as Deputy Anderson, and Sam Coyles as Lucas Baker.

Riggs is open to further exploring the Resident Evil universe. In a conversation, he expressed his desire to create a feature-length adaptation of Resident Evil 7 in the future and would be excited to collaborate with Cregger on another project within the franchise.

“If [Cregger] wants to continue in the universe, I’m all for it,” he mentioned. “Listen, my phone is open. Hit my line!”

Whether this collaboration will materialize remains uncertain. Cregger has shown hesitance to dive back into franchise films after receiving mixed reactions from some Resident Evil fans, although he has also shared ideas for a potential sequel.

The fan film is available to watch for free on YouTube.
