Resident Evil Requiem Offers Unique Replay Value, Letting Players Tackle Zombies with Leon’s Power Instead of Grace’s Caution
Capcom has finally confirmed what many in the Resident Evil community have been speculating: Leon Kennedy is one of the heroes in Resident Evil Requiem. The studio is highlighting the gameplay variety that comes with having dual protagonists. Grace is the anxious newcomer, while Leon is the seasoned veteran who’s become quite comfortable with his new axe.
In a recent interview, director Koshi Nakanishi shared an exciting detail about the game’s mechanics that enhances the experience of switching between characters. Enemies and items remain consistent when you toggle between playing as Leon and Grace, adding a fresh layer of replayability.
“If you switch from Grace to Leon in the same location, any enemies Grace defeated stay dead for Leon, and the same goes for items on the ground,” Nakanishi explained. “However, Grace often struggles with ammo, making it challenging for her to eliminate all enemies. Using Leon to tackle foes that Grace has avoided is one of the standout features of this game.”
As someone who tends to shy away from intense moments, I find this mechanic particularly appealing. I love Resident Evil, but certain sections, especially the first half of Resident Evil 7, have pushed my limits. The ability to escape tough combat scenarios with Grace and then confront them as the more capable Leon is a comforting option.
I’m also curious about the strategy involved in equipping both characters effectively and managing the combat load to ensure neither is overburdened or underprepared.
“The more you play, the more you realize how actions in one part influence the other, creating a unique replay value compared to previous entries in the series,” Nakanishi added.
Getting hands-on with Leon Kennedy in Resident Evil Requiem has already made me feel like a pro at taking down enemies, and I’m eager to dive deeper into the game.
