Ring Enhances Peephole Doorbell Camera with 2K Resolution
Ring has launched an upgraded version of its smart doorbell camera, designed for easy installation as a replacement for traditional peepholes without the need for drilling or wiring. The Peephole Cam 2K takes over from the original Door View Cam introduced in 2019, boasting a sleeker design, enhanced video quality with a jump from 1080P to 2K, improved tracking features, and a more affordable price point. It’s currently available for preorder at $99.99, with shipping expected later this month.
Like its predecessors, the Peephole Cam 2K consists of two halves that fit through your door’s peephole. The exterior features a camera, doorbell, speaker, and microphone, while the interior houses additional electronics, including a removable battery that lasts approximately 120 days between charges. However, it lacks an internal preview screen, so you’ll need to use your phone or a compatible smart display to see who’s at your door.
Despite this minor inconvenience, the ability to view and interact with visitors from anywhere—even when you’re not home—makes it a compelling option. The Peephole Cam 2K provides real-time motion alerts with brief descriptions of detected activity, and you can customize its motion detection to focus on specific areas within its wide 140-degree field of view, helping to avoid false alerts from passing cars. However, features like reviewing recorded events for up to 180 days and receiving specific alerts for detected packages require an additional subscription plan.
