Robert Pattinson Offers Encouraging News on The Batman Part 2

Just last week, fans of the Dark Knight were taken aback by the unexpected news that filming for The Batman Part 2 has been put on hold. According to a statement from DC Studios, the pause in production is due to director Matt Reeves needing to step away for a “family matter.” This has sparked concerns among fans about the film’s future, especially in light of the recent merger between Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount Skydance, which has cast uncertainty over several projects. However, Batman himself, Robert Pattinson, is here to reassure fans.

At the U.K. premiere of his latest film, Primetime, Pattinson addressed the status of The Batman Part 2 when asked by an outlet. He confirmed, “We’re pausing for a little bit,” but quickly added, “We’re going to figure it all out.” This should provide some comfort to fans, indicating Pattinson’s commitment to the project. While it’s unclear how long production will remain on hold, the film’s scheduled release date of February 18, 2028, has not yet been pushed back due to Reeves’ absence.

The Batman Part 2 has already encountered several delays, having missed its original October 2025 release by a significant margin. Although details about the sequel’s plot remain under wraps, speculation is rife based on set photos suggesting that the Court of Owls may play a role. Alongside Pattinson, Colin Farrell, Jeffrey Wright, and Andy Serkis are set to reprise their roles as The Penguin, Commissioner Gordon, and Alfred, respectively. New faces in the cast include Sebastian Stan as Harvey Dent, Scarlett Johansson, and Charles Dance.

The new DC cinematic universe is now gaining momentum under James Gunn’s leadership. With David Corenswet stepping into the role of Superman in next year’s Man of Tomorrow, fans are still waiting for news on Batman. Since Matt Reeves’ films were developed before Gunn took the reins at DC Studios, they weren’t initially intended to be part of the new DC universe. Gunn has clarified that the decision to keep Reeves’ work separate from the new canon is up to Reeves himself, meaning Pattinson is not the Batman of the DCU.

The current slate for DC does include The Brave and the Bold, which will focus on Batman. This film is reportedly in early development. Meanwhile, the character has been referenced in various existing DC projects, including a casual mention in an episode of HBO’s Lanterns.
