Roblox Unveils AI Tools That Mirror Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Roblox Corporation has just unveiled its latest innovation: a “real-time, action conditioned world model,” a generative AI tool designed to create interactive videos. This new tool appears to function similarly to a recently launched project that drew inspiration from classic games. While that project borrowed elements from iconic titles, Roblox’s version seems to be channeling the upcoming Game of the Year for 2025.
On February 5, the company shared its vision for the Roblox world model, stating, “We see several immediate uses for our Roblox world model. We will use it alongside text, image, and video prompts to auto-generate immersive worlds. In Roblox Studio, creators can explore and use prompts to ‘paint’ a world, which can then be transformed into a 3D representation or directly integrated into Roblox for multiplayer experiences.” They showcased a rather rough rendition of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 as an example.
Interestingly, the world model tech was presented as an addition to a separate announcement. The main highlight was the upcoming “4D generation” technology, part of the Cube Foundation Model, which enables “creators and players to generate fully functional objects” that can be imported into Roblox, the platform where millions engage and spend.
The mention of the world model was tucked into a response from the official Roblox account regarding the 4D generation announcement, clarifying that the “real-time, action conditioned world model” has been “trained on a combination of data, including proprietary Roblox 3D avatar/world interaction data.”
The phrasing here seems to be doing a lot of work, as many quickly pointed out that the “woman in a glowing cave” prompt clearly utilized footage from Sandfall Interactive’s Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 to create its “real-time dreaming” world.
One user astutely noted that it appears to have drawn inspiration from the Flying Waters location and Maelle’s character model, including her outfit. “What do @SandfallGames think about this? I wonder what you trained your model on?”
As of now, Sandfall Interactive has not issued an official response to Roblox Corporation’s world generation showcase. Similarly, Nintendo has remained silent regarding the use of its assets and IPs in the other project, despite a noted decline in its share value that some analysts have linked to the recent release.
