Roblox’s Hottest Viral Games Are Ready to Explode in Popularity
Roblox stands as the largest gaming platform globally, yet its viral games and the communities that form around them have largely remained isolated from the broader internet. That’s set to change with the introduction of Roblox Everywhere, announced on September 11. This initiative aims to allow the company, currently under scrutiny for child safety issues, to deliver games directly to players through dedicated apps.
“Our vision for Roblox Everywhere is to empower creators to connect with audiences where they already are,” the company stated in a blog post during this week’s Roblox Developers Conference. “Soon, creators will have the option to launch their games as standalone apps across mobile, PC, and consoles, with Roblox providing the underlying technology and services.”
This move will simplify entry into the Roblox ecosystem and enable newcomers to engage with existing players through cross-play. The company also revealed several upcoming features that could significantly enhance a platform already larger than Steam.
“By the end of this year, players will be able to join a game directly in-browser on Chrome (with more browsers to follow) from a game’s Experience Details Page—no app installation required,” the company added. “The web player allows players to click a link from anywhere (search, YouTube, social media, or an email from a friend) and start playing instantly.”
Roblox is also working on features that will facilitate offline play for users on the move, making it easier for players to follow each other between games and chat across different titles. The company is investing in new tools to promote the creation of 2D games, as the platform is currently dominated by 3D social experiences, and is enhancing discovery mechanisms to foster a more vibrant ecosystem that isn’t overwhelmed by low-quality content.
Generative AI is also on the horizon. “Coming later this year, Scene Generator will enable prompt-to-scene functionality in both Build and Studio, offering greater control for creators in Studio,” Roblox announced. “By providing a text prompt and reference image, creators can generate a fully functional layout and then refine it in Studio.” With this feature launching alongside mobile-first development tools aimed at simplifying the creation of short experiences, Roblox appears to be revamping its user-generated content production processes to support its struggling financials.
Additionally, Roblox introduced a new credit card designed to help bypass Apple and Google’s app store fees while offering players discounts on Robux, the in-game currency, when purchased with the card. “Roblox Card connects to Roblox Wallet, allowing creators to spend their available balance directly wherever it’s accepted,” the company explained. “We plan to start rolling out Roblox Card in 2027.”
