Rockstar addresses GTA 6 leaks, revealing employee frustration.

Rockstar Games is once again facing a challenging situation this week. Just like in 2022, a hacker has surfaced, leaking a series of unauthorized video clips from the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6. These new leaks, reminiscent of the gameplay footage that emerged four years ago, showcase an unfinished version of the game with out-of-context gameplay. While many fans are excited to catch a glimpse of actual GTA 6 gameplay, Rockstar is understandably frustrated with how its game is being unveiled.

Take-Two Interactive, the company behind Grand Theft Auto, is actively working to track down the leaker and suppress the unauthorized gameplay videos. They are seeking to subpoena Microsoft and Discord to uncover the identity of the individual behind the “Cyberleak” persona, who has been aggressively sharing what appears to be a playable PC build of the game.

Although Rockstar Games has not made any public statements regarding the leaks, Take-Two has filed a petition in federal court under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, claiming copyright infringement. This legal action adds a layer of legitimacy to the leaks.

Internally, reports indicate that Rockstar employees and management are quite upset about the situation. Many are feeling “frustrated and exhausted,” especially since this is the second time such a breach has occurred. There is also disappointment that the security measures implemented after the first major leak—specifically, the elimination of remote work—failed to prevent this latest incident.

While Rockstar is understandably upset, the impact of these leaks may be lessened soon. According to reports, the company is making efforts to boost morale among staff. One of the top executives reportedly sent an email denouncing the leaker and reassuring the team that this incident wouldn’t overshadow their hard work.

The excitement surrounding the GTA 6 leaks will likely fade later this week when Rockstar Games presents an extended look at the game. This preview event is expected to showcase GTA 6 in a much more favorable light. “Grand Theft Auto 6: An Extended Look” is scheduled to premiere on Thursday, Aug. 27, with the trailer debuting on Netflix at 3 p.m. EDT / 12 p.m. PDT, giving subscribers an early glimpse of what’s in store for GTA 6. The extended look will also be available on YouTube later that day.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is set to launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X on Nov. 19.
