ROG and Xreal Collaborate on Premium AR Glasses
On Monday, during its CES 2026 showcase, Asus-owned Republic of Gamers (ROG) unveiled an exciting partnership with AR innovator Xreal. The new ROG Xreal R1 glasses come equipped with plug-and-play microOLED displays, allowing you to immerse yourself in games, movies, or even spreadsheets on a virtual screen that can reach up to 171 inches. What really sets these glasses apart from earlier Xreal models is their impressive 240Hz refresh rate, making them a prime choice for competitive and professional gamers.
Connecting the R1 glasses to the ROG Ally is a breeze with a USB-C cable—no need for a separate charger or complicated setup. While these glasses are tailored to enhance the Ally handheld experience, they’re also compatible with smartphones, laptops, desktop PCs, and consoles. You can plug them directly into a handheld device or use the included ROG Control Dock to easily switch between your Nintendo Switch, Windows PC, Xbox Series X, and PlayStation 5 with just a few clicks. However, console gamers who prefer lounging on the couch might find them more suited for desktop setups.
Asus and Xreal highlighted some impressive technical features in their announcement:
As we mentioned in our recent review of the Xreal 1S glasses, they are surprisingly user-friendly for such advanced technology. You can easily adjust the size of the virtual screen and its distance from your eyes with just a couple of button presses. The innovative electrochromic technology lets you control the tint of the glasses and the opacity of the virtual screen on demand. Even if you’re skeptical about wearables, these glasses are undeniably cool, complete with a stylish red power indicator on the arm that brings to mind the classic Nintendo Power Glove.
The ROG Xreal R1 glasses are set to ship in the first half of 2026. While Asus hasn’t disclosed the price yet, you can expect it to be higher than the less powerful Xreal 1S, which retails for $449.
