RollerCoaster Tycoon Makes a Comeback This Winter on PC

The RollerCoaster Tycoon series is set to make a thrilling return later this year with RollerCoaster Tycoon Wonderworks. Developed by Springloaded, the creative minds behind Let’s Build a Zoo, this latest entry in the beloved theme park management sim will hit PC early access on Steam soon.

Originally crafted by Chris Sawyer, the 1999 classic RollerCoaster Tycoon was a staple for many millennials who spent their childhoods gaming on PCs. It allowed players to design their own amusement parks, construct roller coasters, and oversee every detail of the operation. While the series has seen numerous sequels, spin-offs, and remasters over the years, the last mainline title, RollerCoaster World, released in 2016, was met with mixed reviews. Now, a decade later, Atari is reviving the franchise with Wonderworks.

Even with a new developer at the helm, RollerCoaster Tycoon Wonderworks retains a familiar feel. Players will build parks from an isometric viewpoint, but this time, the game features a more whimsical, toy-like art style. Every element of the park, from financial management to attraction customization, is under the player’s control. According to Atari, Wonderworks aims to strike a balance between depth and accessibility, offering expanded customization options alongside more user-friendly management tools.

Gamers can look forward to an enhanced roller coaster design tool, a “realistic” physics engine, and plenty of delightful chaos. Springloaded’s signature humor, showcased in Let’s Build a Zoo, will also make its way into the RollerCoaster Tycoon experience. This is evident in the announcement trailer, where rides malfunction in spectacular ways and park visitors hilariously get flung off the edges of the map.

RollerCoaster Tycoon Wonderworks is set to launch into PC early access this winter on Steam, with a price tag of $24.99. While a specific release date is still under wraps, Atari plans to roll out the full game on both PC and consoles once early access concludes.
