Ron Perlman Shares Surprising Pay for Fallout’s Legendary Line

Ron Perlman has become a legendary figure in the Fallout community, primarily for his memorable line, “War. War never changes.” Recently, he shared a humorous anecdote about his compensation for voicing the original Fallout game. During an appearance on a podcast, he revealed, “They invited me to do the very first Fallout and gave me $40 and a sandwich.” The original Fallout, developed by Interplay, hit the shelves in 1997. It wasn’t until later that Perlman realized the impact of the franchise. “A year and a half later, I get a call, ‘Hey, you remember Fallout?’ No. ‘Well, there’s a second one.’ I go, ‘Why?’ ‘Because the first one went through the f**king roof,'” he recalled. His reaction was one of surprise and excitement, leading him to voice the second, third, and fourth installments, ultimately becoming part of a massive franchise.

Interestingly, Perlman admitted he has never played the Fallout games or interacted with the development teams. “No. I did a couple of lines, got my $40 and my sandwich, and went home,” he stated, leaving fans curious about the type of sandwich he received. Fallout 2 was crafted by Black Isle Studios, and in 2007, Bethesda acquired the rights to the series, launching Fallout 3 in 2008 as their first entry. They later released Fallout 4 in 2015 and Fallout 76 in 2018, while 2010’s Fallout: New Vegas was developed by Obsidian. Fallout 5 is currently in the works, but it won’t be arriving anytime soon. Meanwhile, reports suggest that Bethesda is also focusing on remakes of Fallout 3 and New Vegas. In related news, the Fallout TV series on Prime Video is currently airing, with Episode 5 just released. Three more episodes are set to follow before the season concludes on February 4, and a third season was announced in May 2025, ahead of Season 2’s premiere.
