RuneScape Unveils Ambitious 2026 Roadmap Featuring Its Largest Region Yet
RuneScape is marking its 25th anniversary this year with a slew of exciting updates and announcements across its platforms. Kicking things off is the main game, often referred to as RS3, which has unveiled a comprehensive roadmap for 2026. This includes the “largest area expansion in the game’s history.” The RuneScape Ahead video outlines the entire roadmap, which follows the removal of the Treasure Hunter mechanic, a decision made by nearly 125,000 players.
The first part of the expansion, named Havenhythe, is set to launch in Spring. It will introduce two new story quests, two early-game bosses, and two miniquests, along with raising the hunter skill cap to 110. The second part, scheduled for next winter, will feature a new end-game boss: the Ghrazi Blood Knights. Throughout the year, additional Havenhythe content will roll out, including a story quest in the update after the region’s debut and a dig site to follow.
While the Havenhythe launch is sure to be a highlight for veteran players, there’s much more on the horizon. The entire roadmap is dubbed the “road to restoration,” aimed at “bringing integrity back to the heart of RuneScape.” This initiative includes a revamped user interface, visual enhancements across the game, including complete overhauls of Misthalin and Asgarnia, and a modernization of combat mechanics.
“Central to the year ahead is a comprehensive modernization of RuneScape’s core systems, elevating and enhancing the player experience,” states the announcement. “The roadmap — The Road to Restoration — is a commitment to address the game’s most significant and requested quality-of-life improvements, enhancing the appeal and consistency of the in-game world of Gielinor. The extensive roadmap features a fresh look for the game with UI updates, visual integrity improvements, combat style modernization, API plugin support, game rebalancing, overhauls to ‘dailyscape’ content and Auras, and enhancements to the Grand Exchange trading system.”
In April, player avatars will receive a major overhaul, including updates to models, animations, hairstyles, and clothing. Later, player-owned houses will get some much-needed attention, with the construction skill cap raised to 120 and a new recipe system that allows players to unlock and create furniture inspired by their in-game achievements and adventures.
Expect more seasonal events throughout the year, including Blooming Burrow, Harvest Hollow, and Christmas Village. And yes, the last one is exactly when you think it is. Additionally, Leagues II is on the way, promising “new overpowered relics, new tasks and challenges, and new rewards,” all refined based on community feedback.
Lastly, RuneFest, the annual convention for RuneScape fans, is returning. Scheduled for October 3-4 at the NEC in Birmingham, United Kingdom, it will accommodate 6,000 fans, more than double the capacity of last year. Tickets will be available later this year on the official RuneFest site.
