While the MCU is known for its humor, it seems that Avengers: Doomsday is set to deliver a more intense experience than expected. “As much as we embrace the fun aspect of these films,” Anthony Russo shared, “we also delve into the complexity and challenges of narrative depth. I believe we’ve reached a new level of that in Doomsday.” Joe Russo added, “Victor von Doom requires a specific tone.” The four trailers released so far reveal little about the storyline—aside from the return of Chris Evans as Steve Rogers—but they all carry a serious tone. This is fitting, given that Doctor Doom is one of Marvel’s most formidable villains, likely presenting a significant threat to Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Doomsday boasts an enormous cast, featuring returning characters from the Fox era X-Men, alongside the Thunderbolts, the Fantastic Four, and familiar faces like Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson, and Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes. Stan has recently been cast in The Batman 2, which has some Marvel fans worried that the former Winter Soldier might meet his end in Doomsday. One notable absence is Halle Berry, who portrayed Storm in the X-Men films. “Storm’s not there. I promise you. You all think I’m being coy and silly, but I’m not in it,” she stated recently. Whether to believe her remains to be seen… Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18.
