Schlage’s New UWB Smart Lock Arrives This Month
After more than a year of anticipation, Schlage’s first smart lock featuring ultra wideband technology (UWB) is set to hit the market. Starting June 29th, the Schlage Sense Pro deadbolt will be available for $399 in the US, allowing users to unlock their doors simply by approaching with a compatible device, eliminating the need for keys or biometric scans.
Initially unveiled at CES 2025, the Sense Pro utilizes Schlage’s proprietary Converge technology for UWB. This system requires a home key on a compatible iPhone or Apple Watch to assess your speed, trajectory, and motion, unlocking the door as you arrive. It’s also the first Schlage lock to support Matter over Thread, enabling seamless pairing with Thread-enabled Apple Home hubs, including select Apple TV 4K and HomePod models, for reliable, low-latency performance.
Additionally, the Sense Pro is compatible with Aliro, the smart lock standard that facilitates UWB hands-free unlocking and NFC tap-to-unlock. Schlage has indicated that the Sense Pro will support Aliro digital keys in Samsung Wallet and Google Wallet “later this year,” allowing UWB-enabled Google and Samsung devices to utilize hands-free unlocking or tap-to-unlock via NFC.
The Sense Pro comes equipped with built-in Wi-Fi, allowing for remote management through the Schlage Home app or the Apple Home app. Schlage claims it offers up to six months of battery life “with standard use” and features a USB-C port for temporary power if the batteries run out. Users can monitor the device’s power status with a low-battery indicator on the touchscreen.
Currently, the only other lock that supports hands-free Aliro UWB unlocking is the Aqara U400, which launched at $270 earlier this year. When tested at CES, the Sense Pro demonstrated its ability to unlock automatically upon approach, even amidst significant RF interference. Now, after a long wait, we’re eager to see if this quick hands-free unlocking experience translates well to everyday home use.
