Scientology Challenges Take TikTok by Storm

Scientology Runs are shaping up to be one of the internet’s quirkiest new trends. This phenomenon involves individuals recording themselves as they dash into Scientology centers, trying to see how far they can get before being caught and kicked out.

While the Church of Scientology generally welcomes visitors, they prefer those who come with deep pockets, ready to surrender control of their lives to rid themselves of the pesky Thetans supposedly residing within. What they definitely don’t appreciate is uninvited guests sprinting through their doors.

The buzz around this trend might be a bit overblown, as it largely stems from just a couple of videos that keep getting shared, creating the illusion that this is the next big thing. But maybe that’s just the kind of hype it needs to really take off.

The Church of Scientology, with its bizarre beliefs involving ancient space wizards and the demons that supposedly influence our behavior, could be amusing if it weren’t so troubling. The building featured in these clips is the Church’s main public location in Hollywood, which attracts attention due to the many celebrities who have confided their secrets to join and continue to funnel money into the organization. This makes it a prime target for pranksters and content creators, especially given the comical way recruiters scurry inside and lock the doors when they spot a camera.

Some have suggested that this trend might not be beneficial for those looking to expose Scientology’s true nature. A journalist pointed out that such antics reinforce the Church’s narrative that the outside world is hostile and seeks to disrupt their activities, arguing that these pranks inadvertently support their agenda.

As someone who has been a significant target of Scientology and has invested a lot in opposing it, I find this trend counterproductive. Many former Scientologists share this sentiment.

Given how exaggerated the trend seems right now, it might not be a major concern. Still, it’s undeniably amusing and quite juvenile. It’s probably best to steer clear of trying it yourself.
