Searching for thumbsticks? The KontrolFreek Switch 2 grips are my top recommendation!
Recently, a close online friend reached out on Discord, asking for suggestions on thumb grips that would prevent the rubber from becoming sticky on their official Switch 2 Pro controller. My first thought was how nice it felt to be their go-to for Nintendo Switch 2 accessory advice. After that little ego boost, I immediately thought of the Strawberry Sage Edition Kontrol Freek No-Slip Thumb Grips.
These grips, priced at $12.99, are a solid choice. They come in a pack of four and are designed to fit a variety of controllers, keeping my Joy-Con grips safe and free from stickiness for weeks. The grips feature a laser-etched surface that enhances both grip and comfort, thanks to KontrolFreek’s proprietary GripTek material, making them easy to apply and remove. They work well with the Switch 2 Joy-Con, Switch 2 Pro controller, and even PS5 and Xbox controllers.
**Buy it if:**
– You play Switch 2, PS5, or Xbox
– You want to protect your controller sticks
**Don’t buy it if:**
– The pink and green colors aren’t your style
– You prefer mid to high raised grips
With a name like “Strawberry Sage Edition” and their cute pastel colors, I worried my friend might hesitate to add them to their setup. However, a few days later, they sent me a picture showing that the grips had arrived and were already protecting their Switch 2 Pro Controller and 8Bit Do controller sticks.
One of the best features of this pack is its versatility; they fit a wide range of controllers. I have a pair on my limited edition Astro Bot DualSense and another on my Switch 2 Joy-Cons. They also fit PS4 controllers, Xbox Wireless controllers, and the original Switch Pro controller if you still have one.
Over the months, these grips have kept my original sticks safe from wear and the grime that can build up during marathon gaming sessions, whether I’m racing in Mario Kart or battling in Marvel Rivals. While they don’t completely eliminate the sticky feeling that can come from worn-out sticks, the silicone rubberized material and textured surface provide a better grip without overwhelming your senses.
However, these grips do have their limitations. As I mentioned to my friend, they come in a four-pack with the same height, so if you’re looking for the benefits of mid to high-rise thumb sticks, you might want to check out KontrolFreek’s Inferno Switch Pro Edition grips for $16.99 instead.
They can get dirty over time, but I’d rather clean these grips than deal with the more expensive and complex original sticks. If your controller is showing signs of wear, there are plenty of great options out there for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X controllers to suit your gaming needs.
