Season 2 of It: Welcome to Derry is in development, despite no official renewal from HBO yet.
Great news, horror fans! Season 2 of It: Welcome to Derry is “in the works,” even though HBO hasn’t officially confirmed the return of this chilling prequel.
While The Hollywood Reporter shared that Christina Hodson, known for her work on Birds of Prey, has been chosen to write the DCU’s Batman: The Brave and the Bold, they also mentioned that director Andy Muschietti is actively developing the next chapter of the horror series.
Muschietti has been candid about his vision for the show, which delves into the backstory of Bill Skarsgård’s Pennywise the Dancing Clown as new generations confront the infamous killer. So, it’s no shock that more episodes are on the way, but it’s reassuring to know progress is being made.
“We can only share what’s already known, like it’s set in 1935, 27 years before season 1, and it involves the massacre of the Bradley Gang from the books,” Muschietti explained in a December interview. “The story unfolds during the Great Depression in Derry, featuring some new characters alongside younger versions of familiar faces from this season.”
Fans can look forward to seeing Derry staples like Kimberley Guerrero’s Rose, James Remar’s Shaw, and Madeleine Stowe’s Ingrid in season 2, though they will likely be portrayed by different actors since the timeline is nearly three decades prior to season 1. One thing is certain: Skarsgård will return to unleash more chaos as the iconic evil entity.
It: Welcome to Derry season 1, or “Chapter One” as the title card at the end credits indicates, is currently streaming.
