Season 2 of Star Wars: Maul — Shadow Lord is arriving ahead of schedule.

Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord has quickly become a must-watch for fans, racking up 4.1 million viewers shortly after its debut, and even giving a boost to another Star Wars series in the process. With season 2 already greenlit before Maul’s latest escapade hit screens, the excitement and viewership surrounding this animated series confirm that the decision was spot on. The big question now is: when can we expect the release date for season 2 of Maul – Shadow Lord?

In a recent chat, Maul’s voice actor, Sam Witwer, shared some insights about when fans might see the unluckiest Sith Lord back in action in a galaxy far, far away.

“I know when it’s coming out, but it’s not a situation where the audiences will have to wait too, too long. I think I am forbidden from saying what I know, but we are working on it. We’ve been working on it for a while, and it’s interesting,” Witwer revealed.

His comments suggest that the plan always included at least two seasons of episodes featuring Maul. While the final two episodes of season one are still pending, what we’ve seen so far leaves fans with plenty to ponder about the direction of a second season.

In episode 8, titled “The Creeping Fear,” Maul and his crew had to retreat after the Empire uncovered their hidden lair on Janix. Injured and cornered, Maul finds himself needing to rely on Dryden Vos, the head of the criminal organization Crimson Dawn.

For those who have seen Solo, Vos’s importance is already known, but even newcomers can see that the Empire is tightening its grip on Maul. With Emperor Palpatine gunning for him, Maul will need to gather allies.

The potential allies are diverse. While Maul’s connection with Vos and Crimson Dawn is established, his manipulation of Order 66 Jedi Padawan Devon Izara could also shed light on how he managed to evade the Empire long enough to appear in Star Wars: Rebels. If it doesn’t unfold in the last two episodes, it’s almost certain to be a key plot point in season 2 of Maul – Shadow Lord.
