Sega Offers Early Access to Upcoming Crazy Taxi Game for Fans
Sega’s upcoming Crazy Taxi game won’t hit the streets until 2027, but some fortunate players will get an early taste. On Tuesday, Sega revealed a closed network test for Crazy Taxi: World Tour, allowing select participants to dive into two of the game’s online multiplayer modes.
Set for mid-September, the Crazy Taxi: World Tour multiplayer closed network test will showcase the Pickup Race and Cops ‘N’ Cabbies modes, both available through Ranked Match or Custom Match. In Pickup Race, up to six players will race against the clock to drop off as many passengers as possible, racking up crazy money in the process. Meanwhile, Cops ‘N’ Cabbies pits six players across three two-person teams against each other, all while trying to evade the police who might not appreciate the wild driving style. The test will include two maps, four characters, and six cars, each with various tuning options.
The network test is scheduled to run from 5 p.m. PDT on September 11 to 5 p.m. PDT on September 13, supporting cross-play on PlayStation 5, Windows PC (via Steam), and Xbox Series X. Players can sign up for the test on the Crazy Taxi: World Tour website until August 31 at 11:59 p.m. PDT.
Alongside the network test announcement, Sega shared a more relaxed look at the game’s West Coast map, which serves as Crazy Taxi’s take on San Francisco. The latest trailer offers a glimpse of the new Crazy Taxi experience, featuring intriguing new fares. While not shown in the trailer, Sega confirmed that two officially licensed businesses, IHOP and Amoeba Music, will be part of Crazy Taxi: World Tour.
It’s still uncertain whether other familiar brands like Pizza Hut, KFC, and Tower Records will make an appearance, but Sega has indicated that each location will feature regional retailers and restaurants. Given the history of real-world brands in Sega’s Yakuza series, we might see some notable Japanese names if Crazy Taxi: World Tour makes its way to Sega’s home turf.
Crazy Taxi: World Tour is set to launch on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X in 2027.
