Several Old GTA 6 Leaks Have Been Confirmed as Accurate
Grand Theft Auto 6 is shaping up to be one of the most eagerly awaited games of 2026, potentially marking one of the largest video game launches ever. With such high anticipation, it’s no surprise that a flood of rumors and fake leaks has surfaced over the past few years. However, some of these leaks have proven to be legitimate.
On the Gaming Leaks And Rumors subreddit, a post from January of this year compiles various details from multiple sources, some dating back to 2023. After diving into last week’s extended trailer and insights from various creators and reporters, it’s clear that several details from that January post have turned out to be accurate.
A word of caution: there’s a potential early story leak in that list, so if you want to avoid spoilers, it’s best to steer clear of the January Reddit post. So, what did these leakers get right?
One of the most compelling leaks came from a Twitter user, GameRoll, in June 2025. They shared information allegedly sourced from a “friend of a Rockstar developer.” This insider reportedly revealed the last names of Jason and Lucia before they were officially announced, suggesting they had genuine inside knowledge. Fast forward to September 2026, and with numerous leaks and official trailers from Rockstar providing a wealth of information about GTA 6, it appears GameRoll’s insights were indeed credible, as many of their details have been confirmed.
That said, not all leaks from the January roundup have held up. Some claims, like the game featuring three large islands or over 1,000 enterable locations, seem exaggerated. While GTA 6 is expected to have a rich variety of interiors to explore, the idea of having over 1,000 locations feels far-fetched. Other leaks suggesting the game’s map will be an island or that it will include a basketball mini-game are less thrilling, as they seem like safe bets given Rockstar’s history with open-world titles.
Despite the skepticism surrounding GameRoll’s leaks last year, they’ve turned out to be quite intriguing. Many, including myself, initially dismissed them as fan fantasies, blending elements of RDR2 and GTA into an idealized vision of what a Rockstar game could be. Yet, here we are a year later, and it seems some individuals claiming to have insider knowledge about GTA 6 were indeed onto something.
Does this mean you should believe every random Twitter post about GTA 6 or any upcoming game? Not at all. However, it’s fascinating to reflect on the years of rumors and leaks surrounding GTA 6, identifying which ones were spot on, which missed the mark entirely, and which were perhaps just lucky guesses.
