Shrek 2 Remaster Announced: A Surprising Return to the Swamp
After last month’s leak during the big Steam/Exophase achievement dump, we finally have our first glimpse of Shrek 2: Remastered, which is set to bring the four-player co-op experience to modern consoles. This reveal, amusingly enough, also stemmed from a leak, this time due to an early posting of its store page by Xbox.
The listing showcases several screenshots, a pre-order trailer, and a detailed description of the new features and updates coming to the beloved 2004 platformer. The game is receiving a visual upgrade with “better textures, enhanced UI, [and] 4K resolution,” along with exciting additions like a Photo Mode and a Cheat Mode that allows players to tweak the gameplay. It will support both local and online co-op, making it perfect for introducing your kids to Shrek ahead of Shrek 5 next year, or for reliving the nostalgia with friends and siblings who are far away.
Having played Shrek 2 when it first launched, I was pleasantly surprised by how much of it came rushing back while watching the trailer. While I’m a bit puzzled about why this game is being revived now, it seems to have been popular enough back in the day to align perfectly with the upcoming Shrek 5. The game primarily follows the storyline of the 2004 film, but it also includes some original segments to expand the experience.
Although the store page and pre-order trailer don’t specify a release date, the announcement seems to be on the horizon, so we might not have to wait long to learn when the Shrek 2 remaster will hit the shelves.
