Skyrim Anniversary Edition Arrives on Switch 2 for Your Tenth Playthrough

Have you ever played The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim? Chances are, you have, since it’s available on nearly every platform out there. As of Tuesday, there’s an exciting new option: Bethesda Game Studios has rolled out the anniversary edition of this iconic RPG for the Nintendo Switch 2. This marks the 10th platform for Skyrim since its debut in 2011 on PlayStation 3, Windows PC, and Xbox 360.

The anniversary edition bundles the base game with all three expansions: Dawnguard, Dragonborn, and Hearthfire. The Switch 2 version also features downloadable items from the Creation Club and exclusive gear inspired by The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

How you’ll access these items is still a bit of a mystery. They were previously unlockable in the original Nintendo Switch version of Skyrim, either by finding a hidden chest or scanning specific amiibo.

If you already own the Anniversary Edition of Skyrim on the original Switch—yes, the one that includes fishing—you can download the Switch 2 version at no extra cost. However, if you only have the base game on Switch, upgrading to the Anniversary Edition on Switch 2 will set you back $18.99. New players can pick it up directly from the Nintendo eShop.

While the bonus items were available on the original Switch, the Switch 2 version comes with some notable enhancements. Expect better performance, faster load times, and improved resolution. Plus, it includes mouse support and motion controls, and yes, amiibo scanning is still a feature.

So, gear up for a cozy winter session of Skyrim. This time of year, everyone could use a little shout therapy!
