Sony and Lego Unveil Exciting New PlayStation Set Packed with Retro Easter Eggs
Lego is diving back into the world of retro gaming with an exciting new collaboration with PlayStation. The Lego Group and Sony Interactive Entertainment have confirmed that the previously rumored Lego PlayStation set is indeed happening, set to launch this October.
This impressive Lego set consists of 1,911 pieces and is crafted to be nearly at a 1:1 scale, retailing for $179.99. Builders will get to recreate the iconic original PlayStation console and controller using Lego bricks, along with dioramas that celebrate the early days of PlayStation. One standout feature is the functional “Open” button located on the front-right corner, which activates the spring-loaded lid to unveil two nostalgic dioramas. Inside, you’ll find a large Lego version of the classic “PS” logo, along with mini dioramas inspired by the beloved titles Gran Turismo from 1997 and Ape Escape from 1999.
While the Lego PlayStation set has fewer pieces than the Lego Atari 2600 (2,532 pieces) and the Lego Nintendo Entertainment System (2,646 pieces), it still surpasses the Lego Sega Genesis, which has only 480 pieces. Each of Lego’s gaming console sets has included unique extras, such as a retro TV for the Lego NES and various cartridges for the Lego 2600.
Measuring over 2.5 inches (6 cm) in height, 10.5 inches (26 cm) in width, and 7.5 inches (19 cm) in depth, the Lego PlayStation set is a must-have for fans and collectors alike.
Mark your calendars for the official release on October 1.
