Sony Expands PS Plus Free Library with Nearly All of Destiny 2 on Final Update Day
Destiny 2: Legacy Collection is set to join PlayStation Plus on June 9, coinciding with the launch of its final Monument to Triumph update. This sci-fi MMO will be available to Extra and Premium tier subscribers just as Sony has confirmed that there won’t be any last-minute changes for Bungie’s long-standing live-service loot shooter.
Since Destiny 2 debuted in 2017 and has seen a plethora of paid expansions and DLC, it’s important to clarify what’s included in the Legacy Collection. Released in 2025, this bundle typically retails for $70 and encompasses nearly everything up to the 2024 expansion, The Final Shape, excluding the early content that was vaulted to accommodate the game’s expanding universe.
Notably absent are last year’s Edge of Fate and Renegades expansions, each still priced at $40. Edge of Fate features some compelling story elements but suffers from lackluster missions, while Renegades offers a Star Wars-themed crossover that, while enjoyable, feels more like a fun detour from the game’s usual sci-fi narrative rather than a true extension.
Although much of Destiny 2 is free-to-play, this addition allows Extra and Premium PS Plus subscribers to experience some of the game’s most memorable campaign moments without the need to invest further in the notoriously demanding loot grind. The Witch Queen stands out as a particularly strong campaign, delivering a top-tier first-person shooter experience enhanced by some of Bungie’s finest art, music, and storytelling throughout the franchise.
It’s unfortunate that this release coincides with what feels like Destiny 2’s farewell on June 9. Reports suggest that Bungie is shifting focus to developing new projects, with no immediate plans for a Destiny 3, or possibly even ever.
