Sony Increases PS5 Prices Once More

Sony has announced a price increase for the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation Portal globally, effective April 2. The price of all PS5 models will rise by $100 to $150, depending on the version. The standard PS5 will now retail for $649.99, while the premium PS5 Pro, which initially launched at $699.99, will now be priced at $899.99.

When the PS5 first hit the market in November 2020, it was priced at $499.99. Last August, Sony raised the price of the standard PS5 in the U.S. to $549.99, following earlier increases in Europe, the U.K., Australia, and New Zealand.

Here are the updated prices for PS5 consoles starting next week:

Sony cites “continued pressures in the global economic landscape” as the reason for this latest price hike.

“We understand that price changes affect our community, and after thorough consideration, we determined this was a necessary step to ensure we can keep providing innovative, high-quality gaming experiences to players around the world,” stated Isabelle Tomatis, vice president of global marketing for Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Additionally, the price of the PlayStation Portal remote player will also increase, with the new pricing taking effect on April 2. This marks a $50 increase for the Portal, which was launched in 2023.

Analysts predict that gaming hardware prices may continue to rise in 2026 as manufacturers grapple with increasing costs due to inflation, tariffs, and component shortages. Users of the Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X, and PlayStation 5 may find themselves facing higher prices as companies seek to address the ongoing memory shortage.
