Sony Launches Affordable OLED to Rival LG and Samsung
After making a surprise appearance on a compatibility chart for wall mounts on Sony’s website back in June, the Sony Bravia 6 OLED TV has officially been unveiled. This model slots in below the Bravia 8 and Bravia 8 II, as well as the Bravia 9 II and Bravia 7 II RGB LED TVs.
The Bravia 6 OLED is available in five sizes, ranging from 48 to 83 inches, and is positioned to rival the LG C6 OLED and Samsung S90H QD-OLED models. It features a 120Hz panel, operates on Google TV with Gemini, and supports Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, and DTS:X. Additionally, it boasts four HDMI 2.1 inputs. While the presence of these HDMI 2.1 ports suggests that the Bravia 6 might utilize a MediaTek Pentonic 800 SoC—necessary for Dolby Vision 2 support—Sony has not confirmed this detail.
In contrast to Sony’s higher-end OLED offerings, the Bravia 6 comes with a revamped remote control. The streaming service buttons are now positioned at the top, and there’s a larger, more centralized directional pad surrounded by the home, settings, and back buttons, with volume and channel controls located in the lower third. It also features a built-in microphone for Gemini voice control.
Pricing for the Bravia 6 OLED is set at $1,300 for the 48-inch model, $1,500 for the 55-inch, $2,000 for the 65-inch, $3,000 for the 77-inch, and $4,000 for the 83-inch.
