Sony Unveils Exciting Extended PlayStation 5 Showcase Fans Have Been Anticipating
It feels like ages since Sony last held a major gaming showcase. While there have been smaller events, none have truly given us a glimpse into the next phase of the PlayStation 5. That’s about to change, as Sony has announced a new State of Play set to air later this week, and it promises to be a lengthy one.
Kicking off at 5:00 p.m. ET on February 12, the event will run for over an hour. According to an announcement, viewers can expect “60+ minutes of news, gameplay updates, and announcements from game studios around the world.” This edition of State of Play will highlight exciting third-party and indie titles coming to PS5, along with the latest from PlayStation Studios.
Unlike previous showcases that zeroed in on a single game, third-party publishers, or PS VR, this one seems poised to cover a wide array of topics. Could we finally get news about the rumored new God of War game or perhaps a sneak peek at Final Fantasy VII Remake part three? It’s possible. However, updates on this year’s confirmed blockbusters, like Insomniac’s Wolverine, seem like a safer bet.
Earlier today, the Latin America PlayStation Store briefly hinted at a third-quarter release window for the new Marvel action game, suggesting it could launch sometime between July and September. Other upcoming titles from Sony include Housemarque’s roguelike shooter Saros and Arc System Works’ fighting game Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls. Additionally, the Halo: Combat Evolved remake is set to arrive on PS5 in 2026. Could this be Microsoft’s first appearance at a Sony showcase? Stranger things have certainly happened.
