Soulframe Developers Assure Fans: “The Beaver Will Be Just Fine” Following Intense TennoCon Gameplay

No need to fret, everyone. That beaver hit by an arrow during the Soulframe demo at TennoCon 2026 is going to be just fine.

At this year’s TennoCon Live, Digital Extremes unveiled a sneak peek of the upcoming Warsongs Fable for Soulframe. This playable segment introduced us to Ben Starr’s new character, Bayor, and the corrupted Vadagar Pact. However, the standout moment for many was when players got to take control of a beaver.

In the early stages of Warsongs, a group of soldiers is tasked with guarding a basket that holds a baby. To rescue the child, a beaver heroically drags it away and swims downriver. For a brief moment, as the Warsongs title appears, players can control this adorable swimming beaver. This unique gameplay not only adds charm but transforms what could have been a simple cutscene into a memorable experience.

When asked about the inspiration behind this quirky beaver gameplay, the developers noted that it aligns perfectly with the game’s animal-friendly themes and is just the beginning of more playable animals in Soulframe.

“The game features a wide variety of animals and art that we can incorporate into the gameplay. The beaver is a natural progression of these elements and the overarching themes,” lead designer Scott McGregor shared. “Playing from different characters’ perspectives will be a blast. The beaver is just the start; we plan to introduce even more animal perspectives as development continues.”

Developers also mentioned a prototype featuring a rat scurrying around Soulframe’s world, although it’s not tied to any upcoming content. For now, players can look forward to going beaver mode when Warsongs launches this fall or riding mounts when they become available around the same time.

Senior community manager Sarah Asselin emphasized that incorporating the beaver into the gameplay rather than relegating it to cutscenes was a crucial choice, enhancing immersion, especially since it coincides with the reveal of the fable’s name on screen.

If this push for more immersive, narrative-driven gameplay leads to more beaver moments, then keep it coming, Digital Extremes. Most importantly, Asselin reassured us that the beaver, which gets shot with an arrow while escaping with the baby, is safe and is likely the same beaver later seen with a blue handprint on its side in Warsongs.

“I was really worried when I first saw it because I cared about Mr. Beaver, but rest assured, he will be okay.”

Soulframe is currently in the Preludes pre-alpha playtests on PC, and Digital Extremes is granting access to those who sign up during TennoCon.
