SoundCloud Introduces Music Purchasing Feature

SoundCloud has rolled out an exciting beta feature that enables artists to sell their music directly from their profiles, eliminating the need to redirect fans to third-party platforms like Bandcamp and Beatport. This initiative is designed to provide a more straightforward way for listeners to support their favorite musicians, as SoundCloud won’t take any commission from these sales, ensuring that all proceeds go straight to the artists.

In contrast, Bandcamp typically takes a cut of 10-15% from sales, while artists on Beatport receive about 50-65% of their sale price. According to SoundCloud, over 250,000 artists have linked more than 2.4 million tracks to external music platforms, and the service directs over half a million users to these platforms for music purchases each year.

Initially, the music selling feature will be available to 200 Artist Pro creators in the US, with plans to broaden access to all eligible creators later this fall. Fans will be able to buy music in the format chosen by the artist, such as MP3 or WAV files.

This new beta feature follows the launch of SoundCloud’s All-in-One artist subscription last November, which allows creators to keep 100% of their distribution royalties. The addition of music sales is part of SoundCloud’s vision to transform into more than just a streaming service, enabling creators to be heard, connect with fans, and earn—all in one place.
