South Park’s New Teaser Hints at a Return to Its Roots in South America
Last week, South Park revealed its new title: South America. This playful jab at Trump’s attempts to rename various geographical locations—like the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America—highlights the willingness of tech giants to adjust their maps accordingly. Now, the town of South Park has joined the fray, adopting the name South America.
A fresh teaser for the upcoming season has dropped on South America’s social media, giving fans a sneak peek at what’s in store for this quirky mountain town.
Trump’s controversial decisions have been a frequent target for South Park’s humor. While these jokes can be amusing, many fans feel they’ve run their course and are eager for a return to the core cast. The antics of Cartman, Stan, Kyle, and Kenny, along with a host of beloved secondary characters, are what truly resonate with the audience. A shift back to their everyday misadventures is what many are hoping for in this new season.
When the official South Park accounts announced the name change, fans expressed concern that the season might simply recycle previous Trump-centric episodes. Although the topic is likely to surface—especially with the rebranding—the teaser for the first episode hints that Trump may not take center stage.
Instead, it looks like e-bikes will be the focus in the season opener. The teaser shows Eric Cartman zipping around on his e-bike outside Stan’s house, prompting Stan’s surprise at Cartman’s mom getting him one. Given the chaos e-scooters have already caused in town, it will be intriguing to see how the creators tackle the e-bike trend in the episode titled “South American Biker Gangs.”
It remains to be seen how long the show will stick with the name South America, but it’s likely to stay until a plot twist necessitates a change. South America’s season 29 kicks off on Wednesday, Sept. 16 at 10 p.m. ET, with episodes available the next day on Paramount+.
With Paramount making headlines, Trey Parker and Matt Stone are ready to deliver their sharpest commentary yet.
